LinuxDevices: 1,000 IPTV STBs Running Linux to be Deployed in Belgian Homes

“This month, Belgacom, the leading telecommunications company in
Belgium, will begin deploying 1,000 Linux-based IPTV STBs (Internet
protocol television set top boxes) in home test sites located on
its DSL network throughout Ghent, Brussels, and Liege. The STBs are
being supplied by i3 Micro Technology, and are fitted with a
customized user interface (UI) based on Espial’s Escape middleware.
i3’s third generation Linux-based Mood3 STB incorporates TI’s
TMS320DM642 DSP-based programmable digital media processor along
with an unspecified RISC processor.
