“The newly formed Lineo Industrial Solutions Group today
signaled its intention to guide the destiny of the real-time Linux
market, by announcing a proposed common API for real-time Linux.
The new API is supposed to provide developers the ability to
use a common real-time API for development under both RTLinux and
RTAI, the two most widely-used distributions of real-time
Linux.

“According to Lineo’s Dave Beal, the API is similar to early
forms of both the RTLinux and RTAI APIs and is implemented in a
system by means of a “wrapper” which makes the differences between
the APIs transparent….”
