“Following the Indrema webcast on Monday, Nov 6, John Gildred,
Indrema founder and CEO, was kind enough to hold a press conference
for select journalists. Mr. Gildred expanded on the topics
covered in the webcast, officially (re)announced three points
concerning Indrema development, and answered questions from the
participating journalists. CollabNet co-founder and CTO Brian
Behlendorf also spoke briefly….

“My first question was simply “how many people are working for
Indrema” since, up to this point, we really had no specific
numbers. John stated that Indrema was currently utilizing 20
employees and a few outside contractors, with 10 of those people
working on the hardware itself. Many of the contracted workers are
those working on the new OpenStream and Extrema technologies.”

“My second question was pretty open and was in regards to how
Indrema planned to keep people interested and excited for the
release of the first IES since no developers or game titles have
been announced yet — how he plans to address those who are
concerned that the IES will never make it to market. His response
was a little vague but seemed to revolve around the three new
announcements that Indrema had just made. He was quite confident
that Indrema’s strength lies in the fact that the technologies
being used to develop the IES should appeal to a certain group of
“core gamers” that will be interested in the system bases solely on
the fact that the system is based on free and/or open-source
technologies.”

“The last question that I got in was how hardware distribution
was going to be handled considering the target audience of the IES
(those whom he refers to as “core gamers”) and considering the
receptiveness of retail stores. He was quick to assure us that the
systems would be available for order over the Internet and would be
on retail shelves right next to other console systems. He stated
that Indrema has had very positive feedback so far from retail
stores in regards to stocking this next-generation Indrema
console.”
