“The Benevolent Penguin Society ISP has announced dial-up
service availability to an estimated 1,000 U.S. communities, and
international service deployment in Canada and Japan. But to
children and the Linux community, the deployment means a whole lot
more.”

“The BPS was originally created in partnership with Pinnacle
Internet, an Illinois ISP,” said BPS spokesperson Jeff Gerhardt.
The main function of the organization is as an administrative
vehicle by which the developers, GeekCast and Pinnacle, can do
`good works’ for the Linux Community and the greater community at
large.

“Gerhardt, also GeekCast’s CEO, said that bringing the Linux
community philosophy to the ISP arena was a unique idea. “It was
the first ISP in the world focusing on the Linux community and
fund-raising for good works projects in the Linux community,” he
said.”
