LinuxPower: A review of Caldera 2.2

“My 2.2 installation experiences were somewhat atypical… The
installation process itself was a simple matter of package
selection and then playing Tetris.”

“Overall I like Caldera OpenLinux 2.2 quite a bit. The
installation is easy, the desktop is top notch. But for any review
to be complete I must list my gripes. First the COAS administration
tool doesn’t seem to work as billed.”

“The biggest complaint I had is the fact that a Lizard and an
old style LISA install don’t match up. The biggest issue here is
that if Lizard doesn’t detect your hardware you are forced to use
LISA. Lizard doesn’t let you manually specify modules during the
installation, either it detects them or you’re SOL.”

“Since I don’t believe proprietary software is inherently evil,
Caldera is a more than acceptable choice for me. I think Caldera is
a good “newbie” Linux, as far as installation goes and basic setup.
It includes more than enough features out of the box to compete
head on with any OS out there.
All in all I give it a thumbs
up.”
