The Linux(r) Show!!” announces creation of “The Benevolent
Penguin Society

“Jeff Gerhardt host and executive producer of The Linux(r)
Show!! announced today the creation of a new organization, “The
Benevolent Penguin Society”.

“The purpose of this organization will be simple,” said
Gerhardt, “to help kids in rural and economically disadvantaged
areas by helping their schools deploy LANs and connect those LANs
to the Internet. A lot of organizations have been created during
the last several months that focus on the process to collect and
distribute money back into the Linux Community to fund developers
of GPL related projects. Although I believe in these efforts, and
have even been asked to sit on the boards of a couple of these
groups, I believe that it is time to look outside the community for
some of our efforts to accomplish good works for all. In particular
I feel that open source & Linux free ware offer us (as a
community) to do great good, where it is really needed, in
disadvantaged urban and rural schools.”
