OpenOne Corporation today announced the availability of its
MailOne enterprise e-mail server on the Linux operating
system.
MailOne is an internet standards-based e-mail server
that delivers a consistent set of messaging services to users with
different desktop environments and e-mail applications. It is an
open messaging system that supports leading international and
industry messaging standards. MailOne for Linux is available for
purchase, as well as for use by Application Service Providers
looking to add Linux-based e-mail as an ASP service.”

“Currently available for Compaq Tru64 UNIX and IBM AIX, MailOne
for Linux is a re-engineered version of Digital Equipment
Corporation’s MailWorks for UNIX — a proven, scaleable and
reliable e-mail server. MailOne is ideal for organizations and ASPs
of all sizes who want to deliver e-mail as a network or internet
service to dissimilar desktops and heterogeneous workgroups,
without requiring common desktop applications or environments. By
taking advantage of the proven reliability and the low
cost-of-ownership of the Linux operating system, users can
participate as peers in an integrated workgroup distributed across
wide geographic areas.”

“MailOne for UNIX delivers open messaging to leading e-mail
clients while providing a rich set of Internet mail services,
including a secure message store, bulletin boards, message
transport and directory services. Supported clients include:
POP-based e-mail clients such as Outlook Express, Internet
Explorer, Netscape Communicator and Eudora; Microsoft Exchange;
TeamLinks; an X-Windows Motif and LessTif user agents, as well as a
command line interface. MailOne exchanges messages using multiple
industry standard messaging protocols including Sendmail,
commercial SMTP/MIME message transports, or optionally, X.400
protocols.”
