“Today, SuSE Linux, the international technology leader
and solutions provider in Open Source, announced the availability
of SuSE Linux 7.2 for June 15th. The latest version SuSE’s popular
Linux package comes with more convenience and performance for the
deployment on desktops and servers. A new focus is set on Security
and multimedia Entertainment.

The SuSE Desktop, based on the graphical user interface KDE
2.1.2, boasts numerous improvements: “Konqueror” combines all
features of a web browser and file manager into one single tool.
Now Konqueror supports all common web formats, as well as Netscape
Communicator plug-ins for displaying flash, RealAudio, and Real
Video media. SSL (Secure Socket Layer) constitutes a secure basis
for banking transactions in Linux. KDE 2.1.2 is a useful tool to
perform user-, group-, and company-specific configuration settings.
When a new desktop look is desired, one of fourteen full-fledged
desktop styles can be selected with a button-click. GTK themes
(Gimp Toolkit) and designs of the latest GNOME desktop version 1.4
can also be integrated by choice.

Security issues are increasingly gaining importance for private
users and professional users. When installing SuSE Linux 7.2, it
offers the possibility of setting up a personal firewall with a
mouse click. Anna Kournikova and other viruses are eliminated with
AMaViS (A Mail Virus Scanner). AMaViS interacts with all common
mail servers and is also suitable for use in companies. Sensitive
information can be stored in encrypted form, e.g. on a laptop,
preventing unauthorized disclosure even in the event of theft. This
implementation is powered by the “loop back-mounted crypto file
system”, which provides unencrypted access to data only after
successful authentication and subsequent mounting of the file
system.”
