LinuxWorld: A Linux Thanksgiving

All of us in the Linux community have a lot of reasons to
be thankful this year. This week I’m going to list the things I’m
personally thankful for as a Linux user. Given the bounty that
Linux currently enjoys, I’ll probably overlook a few important
ones. Please feel free to add to the list.

“First, I’m grateful for the GNU/Linux operating system itself.
Today Linux stands in quiet testimony to the power of the Internet
to enable technology, the power of a community united in purpose,
and the power of the individual to effect change. The little
operating system that could is turning the software world upside
down.”

“So thank you, Linus Torvalds, for your brilliance, your
industry, and your humanity. You’ve given us not only the kernel of
the kernel, but the gift of enlightened leadership unique in the
history of technology. You’ve demonstrated the ability to attract
the finest programmers in the world, then to harness and focus
their work to produce release after release of ever more powerful,
robust, and graceful code — and never to pay them one thin
dime.”
