“Caldera Systems’ new network management package, Volution, is
aimed at simplifying everyday network administration. Volution,
which won the Best Network Server Application award at the recent
LinuxWorld Expo in New York, is designed to enable remote
management of unlimited numbers of Linux systems through any Web
browser. A product promising such features is certainly worth a
closer look.”

“Volution essentially consists of two parts, the server and the
clients. Before you plan how to set up Volution on your network,
there are two requirements for the server. The computer on which
you plan to install the Volution server must have a static IP and
be RPM compliant. In addition to this, there are only few programs
required….”

“When you log into the console you will see the Volution main
page with tabs in the left frame. Clicking on the tab labelled with
the company name you specified will reveal which computers have
been set up as Volution clients. Each computer is labelled with its
own hostname and is identified by the hardware address of the
Network Interface Controller (NIC).”
