“Managing more than 100 servers and 20 major Web sites, with
hundreds of developers handling local, national, and international
content feeds, News Interactive, the Australian sister to
[Murdoch’s] News International (UK) and News Digital (US), has a
serious commitment to online content management and delivery.”

“These high profile sites are all powered by the open source
Apache Web server running on the open source Linux operating
system. News Interactive is also taking advantage of other open
source technologies such as the ApacheJServ Java Servlet engine and
OpenSSL to deliver content reliably and efficiently.”

“News Interactive began using Linux and open source more than
three years ago. As with any new technology, the first step was the
hardest. “Bringing open source in for the first time is the hardest
part,” said [News Interactive Technology Director Simran] Gambhir.
After that, it has been a success. “Linux and open source speak for
themselves,” said Gambhir. “You introduce open source solutions and
they work.”
