LinuxWorld: Flight of the bumblebee – They said it couldn’t, but it does

“Linux is certainly not the right tool for every person or every
task. There are many who would probably make it their primary
desktop operating system, except that it doesn’t meet some critical
part of their needs. Perhaps these users need support for a
particular piece of hardware, or perhaps a given application won’t
run on Linux. Those are valid reasons for individual choices.”

But as I’ve listened to dyed-in-the-wool Windows users
explain why they believe Linux will never replace Windows, I’ve
identified three major categories that many, if not all, of their
reasons fall into. These three arguments do not represent real
stumbling blocks, but rather fallacious reasoning erected by some
as barriers to the acceptance of Linux.

“The most common barriers I’ve heard cited fall into the realms
of technology, users, and community. This week, I want to examine
each of those fallacies to see what, if anything, can be learned
from them.”
