“Something horrible could happen, but nobody knows
what.

“At least that seems to be the consensus among Location-Based
Services (LBS) experts. The conventional wisdom here at the
Geo-Loco conference in San Francisco is that at some point in the
future — it could be next year, or it could be tomorrow — some
creepy weirdo or enterprising sociopath will use location services
like Foursquare, Google Buzz for Mobile, Google Latitude, Twitter,
Facebook or any number of location-oriented startups to commit a
lurid crime.

“It could be a stalker, kidnapping, terrorist act — who
knows?

“When it happens, the media will go nuts. Politicians will
pander to public paranoia. Grandstanding Luddites will call for the
heads of those in the industry responsible for making us all
vulnerable to being tracked, hunted, stalked and exposed to evil
doers of every stripe. Think of the children!”
