Sony has announced that it will, indeed, ship Linux for the
Playstation 2. The kits will cost 25,000 Yen (~$205 US) and be made
on a limited basis in Japan first.
“Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has finally announced
on 26, Apr (Japan), that they will ship Linux for PlayStation2 in
June 2001. “Linux for PlayStation2 Kit” will be priced at 25,000
yen and 1,000 kits are planned to be shipped within Japan, as the
first shipment.”
“SCEI says in the press release that they will make part of code
that should follow the GPL or other licenses that require it to be
open open, and part of code that SCEI reserves all rights
closed.”
