Mad Penguin: Exclusive Interview with Jon Danzig

“Mad Penguin: First of all, thanks for sitting
down with us and allowing us to pick your brain. We are huge fans
of Debian and Libranet, so we are very excited about being able to
speak with you. I guess our first question to you is simple: How
did Libranet come to exist? How was it born?

“Jon Danzig: Libranet started because I came
across a web site with some nice screenshots of a Linux system
running the X window system. Checked out the various Linux distros
and settled on Debian, so we put together a system from the Debian
archive and never looked back. It’s a great system and I encourage
people to try it. Libranet got started as a commercial GNU/Linux
project and here we are.

“Mad Penguin: It is always interesting to know
exactly how many people it takes to maintain a Linux distribution.
How many individuals comprise the distro that we know and love as
Libranet?

“Jon Danzig: There are four on the Libranet
team. There are hundreds of dedicated developers who write for the
open or free software world and who’s software we distribute.
Debian developers put together most of the packages we distribute.
There really is a lot of people involved, we are just a link in the
chain. Our users constantly provide feedback and suggestions for
improvements and the Libranet volunteer beta testers steadfastly
check out each release…”
