On May 6, 2005, the Federal Court of Appeal for the Washington,
D.C., Circuit struck down the broadcast flag that the FCC was being
pressured by Hollywood to implement on July 1, 2005. If it had gone
through, this nasty law would have required all TV sets sold in the
US to have included a mechanism or code to honor the so-called
broadcast flag. The broadcast flag would have prevented consumers
from recording broadcast TV, including Tux, pictured here, at the
PCHDTV site…

“The implications of this law would have been (and still could
be) quite dramatic, indeed. As penguinistas know, once content is
digitized, it can be squished, squashed, ripped, mixed, burned,
shared, de-bugged and distributed widely on terms that are set by
you, the end user…”
