“Booting VectorLinux for the first time brings you to a command
line prompting you to log in to the system. I logged into the
system as root and immediately changed the root password (this is
blank by default for a new system). Then I ran the adduser script
to create a normal user account for myself.

“The next step for me was to download and compile the latest
nVIDIA drivers. Many of you may recall my review of VectorLinux 3.2
where it was next to impossible to install nVIDIA’s drivers onto
the system without pulling most of your hair out. I subsequently
posted a HOWTO for those who followed in my footsteps. Well folks,
the nVIDIA drivers installed this time like a dream. The Vector
developers have got this little bug squashed. Thanks! Within two
minutes, I had the drivers installed and edited my XF86Config-4
file. I changed the driver reference from nv to nvidia and then
removed all references to DRI. It was time to get into the
GUI…”
