“The big question, especially for those who propose doing away
with copyright altogether, is “What will (or should) take its
place?” In other words, if copyright is not there to provide
an incentive for creating intellectual works, then what incentives
will apply instead?

“Answers to this are many and varied, and there’s just no
way to lump them together, but I’ll try to divide them into
four main types:

“Do it for love: amateurs rule
Pay-First: Patronage systems
Pay-After: Fan-based “gift” systems
As before, inside a more limited copyright”
