Mandrake Linux 8.1 Release Candidate Is Available

MandrakeSoft is happy to announce the availability of Mandrake
Linux 8.1 Release Candidate. There have been many improvements
since the Beta 1 thanks to the precious help of the Open Source
community. Still, room remains for your contribution. This Release
Candidate is the last opportunity to test and contribute to the
development of Mandrake Linux 8.1.

Changes and improvements since the beta3:

  • The new Mandrake Server Wizards have been integrated to the
    Mandrake Control Center for a faster and more convenient use.
  • XFS, the SGI journalized files system is now supported. This
    brings to 4 the number of journalized files system available in
    Mandrake Linux 8.1. – SuperMount (removable media managing) is
    back.

New software:

  • The freshly released KDE 2.2.1 is now integrated.
  • MandrakeFirstTime allows new users to configure their window
    manager and email client (at present KMail and Netscape), and also
    offers the opportunity to register for MandrakeOnline (a new
    service providing personalized security alerts, email alias, and
    special rebates for MandrakeExpert.com (http://www.mandrakeexpert.com)).
  • Mozilla 0.9.4, the integrated Web Browser and communication
    suite now has dramatic speed improvements and better
    usability.
