______________________________________________________________________ Mandrake Linux Security Update Advisory ______________________________________________________________________ Package name: libpng Advisory ID: MDKSA-2002:049 Date: August 13th, 2002 Affected versions: 7.1, 7.2, 8.0, 8.1, 8.2, Corporate Server 1.0.1, Single Network Firewall 7.2 ______________________________________________________________________ Problem Description: A buffer overflow was found in the in the progressive reader of the PNG library when the PNG datastream contains more IDAT data than indicated by the IHDR chunk. These deliberately malformed datastreams would crash applications thus potentially allowing an attacker to execute malicious code. Many programs make use of the PNG libraries, including web browsers. This overflow is corrected in versions 1.0.14 and 1.2.4 of the PNG library. In order to have the system utilize the upgraded packages after the upgrade, you must restart all running applications that are linked to libpng. You can obtain this list by executing "lsof|grep libpng" or "fuser -v /usr/lib/libpng.so". ______________________________________________________________________ References: ftp://swrinde.nde.swri.edu/pub/png-group/archives/png-list.200207 ______________________________________________________________________ Updated Packages: Linux-Mandrake 7.1: d5a7e93ceeb6df5bc5d8a76d5cc5f8a6 7.1/RPMS/libpng-1.0.5-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 8ebcd9cc318fc4de56119cbfdaef7b97 7.1/RPMS/libpng-devel-1.0.5-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 408b761599627e63fede428188ee4cde 7.1/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.5-2.1mdk.src.rpm Linux-Mandrake 7.2: f874a9d863411cd836b65958612e3fb6 7.2/RPMS/libpng-1.0.8-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 407550b6731f2b788a1ac2bceeac9089 7.2/RPMS/libpng-devel-1.0.8-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 010138d7edef8a2583ec14759d77cc9d 7.2/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.8-2.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.0: 8648f8cd2b58eb6c172f2406b0f4b682 8.0/RPMS/libpng2-1.0.9-1.1mdk.i586.rpm a7602d35d7d0d9970a81cd7577cb8af7 8.0/RPMS/libpng2-devel-1.0.9-1.1mdk.i586.rpm 95518056351fcf8c0b177fc6d2af1407 8.0/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.9-1.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.0/ppc: 45c1bc185692591ae2a3b749d6b4ecf2 ppc/8.0/RPMS/libpng2-1.0.9-1.1mdk.ppc.rpm 391a4ef3e765b0503c0eac30cac192e1 ppc/8.0/RPMS/libpng2-devel-1.0.9-1.1mdk.ppc.rpm 95518056351fcf8c0b177fc6d2af1407 ppc/8.0/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.9-1.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.1: 365df8f064465bff640490f0cb301cab 8.1/RPMS/libpng2-1.0.12-2.1mdk.i586.rpm e770285d26cf86e5ca5625b2fe7da87c 8.1/RPMS/libpng2-devel-1.0.12-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 0092e39856086da06359184cb2722f09 8.1/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.12-2.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.1/ia64: 70766209bc1d23c47736f7ad827ba197 ia64/8.1/RPMS/libpng2-1.0.12-2.1mdk.ia64.rpm 46b8453ed9b48ff3d1940b9ea5028ae9 ia64/8.1/RPMS/libpng2-devel-1.0.12-2.1mdk.ia64.rpm 0092e39856086da06359184cb2722f09 ia64/8.1/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.12-2.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.2: a356a7d29a489d4a4cf69948820818cc 8.2/RPMS/libpng3-1.2.4-3.1mdk.i586.rpm d82469cdfdbbab17d95920646f9ab128 8.2/RPMS/libpng3-devel-1.2.4-3.1mdk.i586.rpm 300ca08369f671487bb8c3da92880351 8.2/RPMS/libpng3-static-devel-1.2.4-3.1mdk.i586.rpm c8634093c123e017e1e7b84dcce7ad0a 8.2/SRPMS/libpng-1.2.4-3.1mdk.src.rpm Mandrake Linux 8.2/ppc: 0962951701cf5c31e8bc2c08f7aac684 ppc/8.2/RPMS/libpng3-1.2.4-3.1mdk.ppc.rpm d61d6870fea5b6a8012d09e7ff68934e ppc/8.2/RPMS/libpng3-devel-1.2.4-3.1mdk.ppc.rpm b488212adf640b21fb68a65cf8a74761 ppc/8.2/RPMS/libpng3-static-devel-1.2.4-3.1mdk.ppc.rpm c8634093c123e017e1e7b84dcce7ad0a ppc/8.2/SRPMS/libpng-1.2.4-3.1mdk.src.rpm Corporate Server 1.0.1: d5a7e93ceeb6df5bc5d8a76d5cc5f8a6 1.0.1/RPMS/libpng-1.0.5-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 8ebcd9cc318fc4de56119cbfdaef7b97 1.0.1/RPMS/libpng-devel-1.0.5-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 408b761599627e63fede428188ee4cde 1.0.1/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.5-2.1mdk.src.rpm Single Network Firewall 7.2: f874a9d863411cd836b65958612e3fb6 snf7.2/RPMS/libpng-1.0.8-2.1mdk.i586.rpm 010138d7edef8a2583ec14759d77cc9d snf7.2/SRPMS/libpng-1.0.8-2.1mdk.src.rpm ______________________________________________________________________ Bug IDs fixed (see https://qa.mandrakesoft.com for more information): ______________________________________________________________________ To upgrade automatically, use MandrakeUpdate.
