Improved printer drivers for HP inkjets.
MandrakeSoft printing expert Till Kamppeter reports:
"Current DeskJets work "Perfectly" now! Last week, Hewlett Packard
released version 1.0.4 of their free inkjet printer drivers. For their
current inkjet models (DeskJet 960/980/990/995C, PhotoSmart P1x15,
OfficeJet D series, CP1160, CP1700, Business Inkjet 2xxx, etc.) a
high-resolution photo mode was added which means that Linux users can
now have the same high-quality printing in Linux as with Windows in its
highest quality mode.

In addition, they also added A5 and A3 paper sizes, full-bleed for all
paper sizes on the PhotoSmart P100, and bug fixes for paper sizes,
margins, and duplex bugs."

The updated packages are now available in Cooker:

    foomatic-1.1-0.20020322mdk.i586.rpm
    ghostscript-6.53-12mdk.i586.rpm
    printer-filters-1.0-47mdk.i586.rpm

Note: As with any Cooker packages, be sure to test them first on a
system that is not a primary production machine.

8.2 Errata
----------------------------------------
All errata pages, which describe known problems and how to solve them,
are released simultaneously on MandrakeForum and on the Mandrake Linux
website to make locating solutions easier.

The first few erratas for Mandrake Linux 8.2 have been posted to deal
with problems with Chinese support, "too quiet" bootups, Mozilla mail
with non-English languages, and XFree86 support on i815 chipsets.

MandrakeClub
----------------------------------------
Club members have been busy downloading StarOffice 6.0 which
became available as a download for Silver-level members (and above) on
March 25th. MandrakeClub.com is currently the only place in the world
to get the newest version of this premiere Office Suite for Linux. Each
Club Member receives the same OEM License that is provided with the
ProSuite or the PowerPack 8.2.

To help answer a week's worth of backed-up email due to Denis being
away at CeBIT, three more MandrakeSoft employees (Outhay, Gene, and JM
Dault) have been introduced to the "wonders of MandrakeClub
administration". Several other MandrakeSoft employees whose work
isn't normally related to MandrakeClub helped out too, so things are
now all caught up at MandrakeClub.com.

MandrakeSecure.net: Introduction to msec.
A new paper has been released at MandrakeSecure.net called
"Introduction to msec". It provides insight as to what exactly msec
does, and how you can customize it to suit your tastes and environment.

"The Mandrake-Security package, more commonly known as msec, has been
one of the base packages in Mandrake Linux since it was first
introduced in version 7.0. Every user, consciously or not, has used
msec to some degree."

Headlines from MandrakeForum
----------------------------------------
Mandrake Linux 8.2 System Survives Thousands Of Attacks.
"7 Days ago today, Mandrake 8.2 was loaded onto a server and placed
into the DMZ of Sec33.com's network. Without a firewall Mandrake sat
and waited while an invitation to hack this system was broadcast around
the globe. This latest version of the Mandrake flavor has received well
over several thousand individual attacks and hasn't needed so much as a
simple killing of a process or reboot."

Mandrake Linux 8.2: Rebuilding nVidia's Driver RPMs.
Tom writes: "If you don't want to wait for nVidia to post updated
drivers for Mandrake Linux 8.2, you can build the kernel module RPM on
your own."

The "Feel Good" Thread.
Tom posts some uplifting stories by people with positive thoughts about
Mandrake Linux and Linux in general.
