“Is anyone else tired of reading the same asinine articles,
mostly by the linux-norant (to coin a term… should I patent it?)
media, about how linux is going to fail on the desktop, no it’s
not, yes it is, no it snot, yestis, nosnot? And if it’s not the
desktop they’re arguing about, it’s the server market, or some
other aspect of the market. Lately, the whole argument over whether
Linus should be involved, and to what degree, has come close to
making me physically nauseous.”
“Take a step back, folks! Let’s look at this against the
backdrop of years. Most of these media pundits have only heard
about Linux in the past couple years. Half of them, if not
more, think that RedHat is Linux! None of them understand Linux,
the linux community or what it’s all really about. They are
writing about Linux from the outside and have an outsider’s
understanding, or lack thereof.”
“Now that I’ve said all that, let me try and stave off the
flames. I am an advocate, obviously, but not a blind advocate.
There are certainly obstacles that need to be overcome. … My
point, in the end, is that if we take the long view, the outcome is
clear. Linux will succeed and it will dominate.”
