“Just when I thought I had everything set up and
working, I realized that I had completely forgotten about setting
up wireless and audio, two things that have always worked out of
the box in my Kubuntu installs. Sadly, that wasn’t the case in Arch
as neither worked, and getting those things to work took about an
entire day. After clearing out those issues, I used my new Arch set
up for a week on my laptop and completed my coursework as usual.“Unfortunately, things did not go smooth during that week. For
starters, my college has a requirement that all assignments are
submitted in the proprietary Microsoft Word format, so I am forced
to save all of my files in such a format. That was normally
something that has worked fine in every Linux distribution I’ve
used for the last five years, but in Arch the files would not save
properly and would sometimes crash the program altogether. In fact,
one assignment I had to do all over again because the file I had
saved was completely corrupted. I’ve never had issues like that
with OpenOffice in any other distro.”
