Raleigh-based News and Observer compares Red Hat Software with
Microsoft Corporation.

“Ask any of the Linux faithful why the alternative computer
operating system beats the pants off Microsoft NT, and they will
recite a dozen virtues touching on the reliability, flexibility and
lovability of the software that has a penguin as its mascot. Ask
the technology manager of a large corporate enterprise about plans
to start using Linux to run business applications, and the response
probably will reflect equal measures of interest and skepticism.
Linux may be a powerful way to run computer systems, but is it
dependable? Is there a help desk? Is it ready for the corporate
world?”

“Red Hat Software, which distributes Linux, has gone to great
lengths in the last eight months to prove that the answer to those
questions is yes. In fact, the Durham company is sounding so much
like Microsoft that the faithful wonder whether Red Hat still wears
its white hat in the market.”
