Market share for the Linux operating system surged by 212
percent in 1998, a growth rate that outpaced Windows NT, NetWare,
Unix, and all others in the server market, according to a new
study.
In the past year, Linux leapt from 6.8 percent to an estimated
17.2 percent, according to a study from International Data
Corporation. The number of copies of Linux shipped to customers
more than tripled from 1997 to 1998.
