“Red Hat Software Inc., a start-up based in Durham, N.C., that
distributes and provides technical support for the Linux operating
system, plans to announce Tuesday that it has received equity
investments from some of the technology industry’s most influential
companies.”

“The Compaq Computer Corporation, the International Business
Machines Corporation, Novell Inc. and the Oracle Corporation have
each taken a minority position in the company, Red Hat’s chief
executive, Robert F. Young, said yesterday.”
