[ Thanks to Aaron
Turner for this announcement. ]
The first of hopefully many semi-regular news briefs
regarding the OODS Project has been published on the OODS web
site.
The Open Object Directory Services (OODS) project aims to make
full-fledged open source object-based directory services into
reality. The project is a result of over a year of development time
invested in the Linux Knowledge Base Project (LKB) in which pseudo
directory services were attempted using PHP and MySQL. It became
apparent over time that the desired functionality simply could not
be achieved using the technology chosen at the time the project was
born. Although OODS is being spearheaded by members of the LKB
team, it is a very different project entirely and we welcome anyone
wishing to support an open source directory service initiative.
