Open-source software can be the answer

“Open-source software programs may not always be as polished as
their paid counterparts, but they often deliver the same results.
And, because the source code is open, the software is constantly
reviewed and improved upon by a community of developers. Security
bugs are usually detected and fixed quickly.

“So, what’s the down side? If something does go wrong with free
software, you’ll need to wade into a forum or search online to get
an answer. You can’t always dash off an e-mail to Microsoft or dial
an 800 number.”
