openSUSE to Compete with Edubuntu?

“At first blush, the new offering, with a proposed release this
fall, appears to have the makings of a serious competitor. Designed
as an add-on ‘EDU-CD’ to accompany the upcoming 10.3 release of
openSUSE, the so-called ‘SLEducator’ is designed to ‘[ease] the
installation and configuration of an educational network and
student desktop.’ More specifically, the Education group of the
openSUSE community defined some extremely ambitious goals for
themselves:

“This project has been created by members of the openSUSE
community. We do not want to create a new distro out of this or a
fork that requires large amounts of code maintenance, since that
would be futile. We only want to add certain packages and features
that pertain specifically to educators and student users
alike…”
