“I find it amazing how companies can continue to discriminate
against those individuals who use certain technology that they
themselves use. I’m speaking specifically of an incident that
occurred not long ago involving both AOL and a friend of mine.”

“This friend learned of a local company that provided that one
coveted service that makes the geek in all of us drool puddles the
size of Olympic pools. In a word, broadband.”

“In this case it was in the form of high-speed cable Internet
access.”

“He promptly phoned Media One (the company he planned to connect
with) and inquired about availability, price, etc. After sorting
out the specifics, he learned that he could both afford and acquire
the highly sought-after cable modem. Upon telling the ISP that he
planned on using Linux with the company’s service, the
representative not so politely informed him that Linux is an OS
that may not be used with their service.”

“After politely probing for an explanation, the representative
replied quite sharply, “Our service does not support Linux.”
