“Linux is herald by many, both news journalists and users as the
renaissance of UNIX on the desktop. However, some computer
users, especially those that are familiar only with Microsoft
Windows or MacOS may not understand why UNIX on the desktop is a
good thing. Like the Renaissance in Europe, the “rebirth” is always
better than the first “birth”, this time UNIX is available freely
to all without any legal ties to a parent company, and this time
the source code is openly available.
The return of UNIX, this
time in a free form, gives average computer users more power over
their computers, and over 30 years of proven methods to increase
productivity.”
