‘People perceive that NT is not reliable enough for
mission-critical applications,’ said Deborah Willingham, VP of
business and enterprise marketing for Windows 2000. ‘We have to set
aside peoples’ concerns before we can get into the details’ of
Windows 2000.

“Huh? In other words without explicitly saying it, they know the
current incarnation of NT is unreliable. This is not a shocker.
This upsets my view of the world about as much as learning that the
old Big Foot footage was faked.”

“The article went on to explain how Microsoft tested NT 4
relentlessly. They found that system failures with NT accounted for
14% of reboots. 65% of reboots were expected, “in the sense that
they resulted when user installed or upgraded system software
(virus software, etc.) or installed new hardware.” Windows 2000
will correct that as much as possible by building programming tools
“to help peripheral makers make clean drivers.” And they are “well
on their way” to eliminating all those reboots. Notice they didn’t
say anything about helping software companies.”
