“Four years ago, if you wanted a Linux machine that you could
use at home, you pretty much put it together yourself. If you
wanted support for X peripheral, you either got on Usenet and asked
the community if anyone has a working driver or module, or you
wrote the thing yourself.”

“…However, there is one thing that still needs to be done.
I know that this will raise some serious ire, and that the distros
have come a long way towards this anyhow, but it still needs to be
said: If you want to make Linux the dominant player, you’ve got to
make it run to the satisfaction of Joe Six-pack.
