filesystem structure called File Hierarchy Standard. Version 2.1
has just been released. The main reason for this new hierarchy is
so that Linux can eliminate the problems of files being in
different locations on different implementations of linux.
This is a key part of the Linux Standard Base, and has now been
totally rewritten.”
“Using this filesystem, it will be much easier for packages made
on one version of linux, or Unix to work on another version of
linux. I don’t believe that Redhat will be quick to adopt. I think
they want to try to lock people into using Redhat packages, and
into the belief that Linux = Redhat.”
