“In a heterogeneous, net-centric world, the data and protocols
will rule. Which OS is “under the hood” will be far less important
than which file formats and protocols you can handle, and how many
different kinds of devices and systems you can share information
with.’

In a net-centric world, Linux offers a “path of less
resistance” than Windows, both to developers and users.
OS-independent applications will simply have more value than those
which are wedded to a single platform.
Developers who write
cross-platform code will serve a much larger market than their
VB/MFC counterparts — and will thus make more money.”
