“In the last few weeks, there has been a lot of speculation
about Redhat and their potential purchase of Corel, the Canadian
company that now makes its own version of Linux. Besides the
possible acquisition of Corel, other companies have been tossed
into the mix of possible takeover candidates.”

“After the purchase of Cygnus, Redhat has become a 300-pound
open source gorilla with some of the best Linux programmers in the
industry. You might ask yourself, what’s their next move? The
logical answer would be VA Linux systems, the leading provider of
integrated Linux based solutions. If Redhat were to acquire VA
Linux systems, Redhat would become a full service provider of
hardware and software based solutions. Since Redhat’s main product
is “free software”, having a hardware division would bring in a
steady profit along with their services business.
