“The Unix Wars are over. Looking back at a copy of BYTE c. 1992,
with the provocative article title “Is Unix Dead?” on its front
cover, and rereading the article, I find it hard to believe that in
such a short time, both the question and some of the vendor
politicking the article mentions, are very much history.”

“The reason of course, came in from the cold, and is named
Linux.”

Linux is at least the most hyped solution to the Microsoft
monopoly at present. It has the potential to fulfil that
hype.
