actually said this. Amazon doesn’t sell software; they sell a
service. You do not buy the software from them. But obviously,
software is involved. It’s just transparent to the user….”

What if years from now, someone who knows nothing of the
benevolent McNealy, and comes forth and takes hold of Java, taking
it in a direction the development community does not want to
go?

“The best form of government is a benevolent dictatorship. It is
also one of the most dangerous. Pure democracy, mob rule, is a
nightmare. Tyranny is as well. The problem with benevolent
dictatorships is that, over time, they aren’t very benevolent for
very long.”
