Sun recently announced intention to purchase Star Division,
the makers of Star Office, for $540 million. Since most people
think of Sun in terms of high end, as opposed to desktop,
computing, this came as a surprise. Linux users fear that Sun
will cut continued support and rumors abound, but it is a strategic
move for Sun that should benefit everyone but Microsoft…”

solutions, purchase a company which sells a desktop software suite?
Sun hasn’t explicitly stated their intentions, but the puzzle

“All successful platforms are defined by their applications. The
desktop is defined by office products and convenient Internet
access. The JavaStation, coupled with Star Office, delivers both in

platform.”
