“A frothing beast is about to be unleashed on the computing
world, ready to devour untold amounts of CPU-cycles and disk space.
Yup, I’m of course referring to Windows 2000.”

“Let’s suppose we want to make a printout of Microsoft’s 30
million lines of code. Assuming we can put 80 lines/page (letter
size), we would end up with over 375,000 pages. If these pages were
placed end to end after each other, they would form a stack over 65
miles long. The150 computer-paper boxes needed to hold the paper
would form a stack over 131 feet high.”

“Win2K may very well suffer the fate of that ancient beast.
Win2k is also huge, scary and it will
(not by its technical
merits but by the even scarier might of Microsoft’s financial and
marketing muscle) try to kill all competitors in sight. Its
size is its own worst enemy – it makes it unadaptable.

Unadaptable to changes in its environment, such as technology,
market forces customer demands and so on. Win2K tries to be
everything to everybody but will probably fail in somewhat
unspectacular manner. Just like WinCE. And T-Rex…”
