skeptics pause. Linux and Apache are now the objects of awe, not
ridicule. The Open Source model is acquiring a mystique rather than
the dismissive disdain it attracted as recently as 1998. Now the
pendulum is in danger of swinging in the opposite direction, with
predictions from many quarters that Open Source software like Linux
will completely wipe out commercial rivals in a few years. What
Linus Torvalds jokingly referred to as World Domination is being
seriously considered by many as an actual possibility.”

“Let us try and forecast whether and when that will happen. We
will divide the operating system market into 6 segments and examine
the likelihood of Linux dominating each.”
