“ZDNet recently conducted a survey of its Linux Website and
I began to wonder if ZDNet could really become a Linux portal for
mainstream businesses. My conclusion was that if they bought a few
clues and had at least one ball it could happen.
Of course to
many in the Linux community ZDnet is viewed as the drooling pitbull
of Microsoft. Eager and willing to discredit Linux at the first
opportunity. In some ways this perception is justified. A brief
review of the evolution of PC rags can help identify some the
problems and lead to possible solutions.”

“Bottom line is that ZDNet can become the Linux portal for
mainstream users. But it will have to evolve from its present
passive review only mode to a new OSS pro-active aware format. I’m
not asking you to fix commercial software, but to be an active
participant in fairly reporting and improving OSS for the benefit
of your own readers.”
