Corel Corp. isn’t interested in being bought out, chief
executive Michael Cowpland said yesterday. If anything, the Ottawa
software company will hit the acquisition trail with its high stock
price and fat market capitalization.

“We’ve been buying (smaller) companies and technology all along,
and now we can raise the bar,” he said….”

“Mr. Cowpland said it does not make sense to do a deal with Red
Hat because that company’s product is based purely on Linux to the
exclusion of applications based on Microsoft Windows products.
Corel, on the other hand, has a Linux operating system for consumer
desktop computers that will also support Microsoft Windows-based
applications.”
