“Microsoft Corp. received a breather Thursday from its seemingly
endless round of legal battles when the judge overseeing the
Caldera Inc. vs. Microsoft antitrust case moved the trial start
date back to Jan. 17, 2000.

“Microsoft had requested a three-month delay of the June start
date, but due to scheduling conflicts, the judge pushed back the
date six months. Microsoft’s counsel told the judge the company
needed more time to prepare for a case with potentially substantial
damage awards at stake, Caldera officials said. Microsoft’s
attorneys told the judge that the case could result in an estimated
$1.6 billion in damages, according to Caldera officials.”
