became the latest vendor to throw its hat into that ring.

But the move, like so many other commercial vendors’ moves into
the open-source realm, shakes up the company’s business model and
may lead users to think more deeply about the different hats their
vendors will be wearing once Linux is added to the fold.”

“David Taylor, SCO’s vice president of professional services,
said that users will be attracted to an SCO-based Linux service
contract because the company is an established Unix
vendor—unlike some startups, such as Red Hat Software Inc.
and LinuxCare Inc.”
