PC Week: SGI adds Wintel servers to lineup

“Known for its high-performance servers and workstations,
Silicon Graphics Inc. is making its first venture into the
commodity server market with a new line of midrange Pentium-based
systems.”

“The first two offerings in the family, the SGI 1400M and the
SGI 1400L, will each feature up to four 500MHz Intel Corp. Pentium
III Xeon processors.”

“The servers, available now, will be unshackled from SGI’s
proprietary Irix operating system. The 1400M will run Windows NT,
while the 1400L will run Linux.”
