PC Week: What Does 25 percent growth mean for Linux

“When I first saw the headlines last week that Linux
implementations were forecast to grow at a much faster rate than
all other operating systems combined over the next four years, I
wondered if the prognosticators weren’t jumping the gun a bit.”

“Although Linux is hot right now…, it seems incredible that
such feverish hype could continue for four more years.”

“But a sober look at the prediction by International Data Corp.
that commercial Linux shipments will grow at a compound annual rate
of 25 percent through 2003…, seems not as much a stretch as the
headlines led me to believe.
