“Acer’s forthcoming desktop PCs will offer style, but they won’t
sacrifice speed to look good. And Taiwan’s largest PC supplier
promises that the prices will remain reasonable.”

“Acer also previewed prototypes of the SlimMate personal digital
assistant. … The aluminum-alloy SlimMate weighs slightly less
than 5 ounces (including batteries) and measures 4.5 by 2.9 by .5
inches. It will be powered by Motorola’s Dragonball processor
running at 48 MHz and will feature 48MB of memory. … The first
versions of the handheld device will feature a proprietary
Chinese-language operating system and applications developed by
Acer and an unnamed partner.”

“Acer also introduced a server appliance aimed primarily at
small and medium-size businesses. The Acer Altos SA50 is
Linux-based and is powered by Intel’s Pentium III processors
,
officials say. For a lower-cost configuration, it also supports
Intel’s entry-level Celeron processors.”
