that will be required for participating system and software makers
that want to sell Linux. The process will ensure that products work
with all commercial distributions of Linux and will prevent market
splintering, according to KeyLabs officials in Lindon, Utah.”

“Meanwhile, the not-for-profit Linux Professional Institute is
developing a Linux certification program for engineers that will be
similar to Novell Inc.’s Certified Novell Engineer and Microsoft
Corp.’s Microsoft Certified Solutions Engineer programs.”

“The combined moves will give IT departments at large
corporations standard reference points when determining whether to
install the open-source operating system or stick with a mainstream
platform such as Windows.”
