(WWN) web site. Site visitors are being asked to vote for the tasks
they’d most like to see Wine’s developers working on. … Getting
Microsoft Office to run under Wine as the top priority by nearly
two to one over the runner-up? Yuck! But you’ll see that kind of
myopia among too many Linux users wherever you go, and often you’ll
hear it from the same people who badmouth Microsoft Windows.”
“Give it a break, folks. The same problems that plague Windows
also come with Microsoft Office. From bugginess to monopoly
market position, MS Office is truly Redmond’s application
counterpart to Windows. Getting MS Office running under Wine and
hence under Linux not only shouldn’t be a priority for the Wine
development team, it’s something that needs to be actively
opposed.”

letters, but it’s a piece of garbage for advanced word processing

the law office.” It includes supporting tables that list 38
separate bugs in Microsoft Word’s footnote and endnote features
alone, all cross-referenced with hyperlinks to Microsoft’s
Knowledge Base, and listing all the versions of Word each bug
persisted through. Many of them date back to Word for DOS v. 1.0,
and have never been fixed.”
